Dave's Pizza Recipes

Pizza Dough Ingredients List

The following pizza dough ingredient quantities are an approximate guideline

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 (1/4 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups warm water, 110°-115°F
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • optional - herbs as desired, such as garlic powder, sage, thyme, rosemary, etc.

Pizza Dough Recipe Instructions

  • Add a little sugar or honey to the warm water.
  • Sprinkle yeast on top of the warm water and wait for the mixture to start to foam.
  • Pour the liquid mixture into a large bowl and add the salt and olive oil.
  • Add most of the flour in increments.
  • If you would like an herb-flavored crust, add an herb, such as rosemary or sage at this point
  • Knead the mixture until you have a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic, adding additional flour as needed.
  • Cover with a damp towel and allow to rise.

This recipe makes enough dough for three 14-inch thin-crust pizzas. If you only intend on making one or two pizzas when you make the dough, then divide the dough into portions, roll the individual portions into balls and place each ball into a lightly floured food storage bag or container and refrigerate or freeze for future use.

Pizza Toppings Base

  • Tomato paste
  • Oregano
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Marjoram
  • Garlic salt
  • Sliced Roma tomatoes
  • Sliced Swiss cheese
  • Sliced Mozzarella cheese

This is my typical sauce base. I do not like the extra moisture of using tomato sauce, so this is my go-to sauce base for all of my pizzas. Whatever toppings I use also have cheddar cheese as the top cheese layer. Thus, most of my pizzas have three or more cheeses.

Pizza Toppings to Try

  • Bacon or ham and pineapple
  • Raw deveined shrimp, I slice them in half
  • Spinach, mushroom and avocado
  • Pepperoni, sausage and mushroom
  • Asparagus and lemon
  • Anchovies
  • Spinach, sliced Roma tomatoes, black olives and feta cheese

Pizza Preparation Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°
  • If your pizza pan is not well-seasoned, then sprinkle some cornmeal or amaranth onto the pizza pan to help keep the crust from sticking to the pan
  • Stretch the dough to the pizza pan
    • Roll the portion of dough with a well-floured rolling pin on a well-floured surface
    • or stretch the dough out by hand, pounding the dough with the heel of your thumb to thin and stretch the dough
  • Stretch the dough to be higher at the edge of the pan
  • Place your favorite pizza sauce base onto the stretched dough
  • Apply your chosen toppings
  • Bake for 20 minutes, then check the pizza for doneness; lift the edge of the pizza with a wooden or metal utensil, looking for a nicely browned bottom
  • Remove from the oven when it is cooked to your satisfaction
  • Allow the cheese to set for two or three minutes before slicing
